I have set up this website to document the construction of a dormer loft conversion on our bungalow. We plan on having two new bedrooms and an en-suite bathroom up there. As I don’t possess the required skills or time we have decided to contract a specialist loft conversion company, after a few different firms coming in to measure up and quite we have chosen Elite Econoloft Limited to do all the work.
Our current Loft
In 2006 We had started to accumulate a lot of things so we decided to box out our loft and make it into a storage area, rather than doing a standard job of putting a few floor boards down, my Dad and I spend quite a bit of time doing (in my opinion) quite a decent job laying floor boards, plaster boards, installing recessed lighting, a new loft ladder and even putting a carpet up there.
Background to needing a conversion
A few years ago our three bedroom bungalow was more than adequate for our needs. The main bedroom was obviously used as our master, the larger of the spare rooms was our home gym and the smaller box room was my study with all our books and computers in there.
Then Matthew came along and we converted our larger spare room into a nursery for him, which meant our fitness equipment then moved into the conservatory (never to be used since). As well as a new baby taking over our life he also has a lot of stuff which has slowly been filling the house ever since.
Now with the advent of a new arrival in November we had two options, move to a new house which had more bedrooms or extend ours. We briefly looked at a couple of new four bedroom houses on some local developments but decided against them as they had no character, small rooms and no garden at all to speak of.
So we decided to extend our house, we had two options either go out or go up, we decided on the later as it would probably be more cost effective. This also means we would lose all the storage space we have up there which we had been using for the past few years, so storage space would be a key requisite of the new loft conversion.
